Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Entry-level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP); required to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Ability to perform physical demands: heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, moving machines/equipment up to 200 lbs. (with assistance), lifting chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Comfortable in a health care facility environment with air temperature control, moderate noise, potential exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, desk/computer work, patient/staff/physician interactions, and possible travel to training/other facilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, document in medical record, adjust/modify treatment plan as indicated, and notify Team Leader/Charge Nurse/Supervisor/Physician as needed
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family’s basic learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary staff, all aspects of daily safe and effective hemodialysis therapy delivery to assigned patients
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithm(s), document medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource for health care team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping; reschedule missed/insufficient collections
  • Identify expected outcomes, document and update nursing assessment and plan of care through collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state/federal regulations, under direction of Supervisor and guidance from Clinical Educator/Preceptor or in collaboration with other RNs
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
