Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • One year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records
  • Ability to operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions
  • Ability to meet or exceed minimum productivity levels and established cases per error goals
  • Strong customer relations and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independently
  • Good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures
  • Ability to maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations
  • Proven ability to communicate articulately and perform simple arithmetic (experience in handling money preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Run daily routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times
  • Operate in a cross-dock model: pick up loaded truck from nightly delivery at assigned loading dock and return empty truck to assigned lot at end of route
  • Unload product from trailer by hand or using hand cart and place in designated customer storage areas (may include transporting down ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather)
  • Verify delivery of items with customer, obtain proper signatures, contact management for invoice discrepancies, communicate all errors/returns, and call in for short orders
  • Handle any customer complaints professionally
  • Handle company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and perform pre-trip inspections
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with DOT regulations and Sysco policies/procedures
  • Occasionally assist with loading trucks, palletizing product, and other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager
