Requirements

Candidates should possess extensive experience covering all aspects of U.S. news, including politics, current affairs, and culture, along with several years of newsroom experience working at a reputable publication, including experience line managing individuals and conducting performance management. They should demonstrate a familiar ease with using the internet and other tools to gather and report on news for a digital publication, and be well-versed in the latest trends and conversations in the American zeitgeist. Sound editorial judgment and a comprehensive understanding of media law are also required.

Responsibilities

The News Editor will implement performance goals and objectives for the editorial team, conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback, develop and implement performance improvement plans, monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure team objectives are met, collaborate with other departments to align editorial goals with overall company strategy, provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members, address performance issues and implement corrective actions as needed, support editorial leadership to coordinate the daily operations of the newsroom, ensure production, communications and Standards processes are followed, and stories adhere to ethical, journalistic and house standards. They will also support in developing and executing newsroom strategies and processes in line with Newsweek’s editorial and company objectives, and ensure staff are following established 1:1 Performance review procedures, including Standards feedback to relevant editors and staff.
