Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Working in a state that does not allow graduates to perform nursing duties until licensed
  • Must obtain nursing license within 90 days of hire date
  • Capable of working in a challenging environment requiring handling demanding situations, multitasking, and flexibility to changing needs
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Obtain and maintain required credentials or certifications in active and valid status, including renewals
  • Notify supervisor immediately if credential or certification status changes
  • Ability to meet physical demands and work in described environment (reasonable accommodations may be made)

Responsibilities

  • Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment
  • Perform and record pre and post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings to nurse supervisor
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed or directed
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; perform functions for treatment discontinuation and document appropriately
  • Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing & sitting blood pressure)
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge
  • Document information related to patient treatment in the patient health record
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Perform and document interventions for unusual patient status and patient response
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection
  • Conduct tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document appropriately
  • Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics; ensure areas are safe and clean
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments
  • Perform required pretreatment dialysis machine set up and testing
  • Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectant
  • Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
  • Enter treatment data into clinical application accurately and timely
  • Review health care record for completeness and correct omissions
  • Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat specimens
  • Collect, label, prepare, and store lab samples per specifications
  • Ensure lab specimens collected by appropriate courier
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
