Requirements

  • Ability to work hybrid, reporting to Concord, NC three times per week at minimum
  • Expertise in vehicle dynamics, data analytics, race strategy, and simulation model development, refinement, and correlation
  • Strong collaboration skills with internal GM Motorsports groups, external race team partners, GM production engineering, GM IT, and GM Motorsports personnel
  • Proficiency in utilizing vehicle simulation tools (offline and Driver-in-the-Loop simulators), conducting large simulation batches/DOEs, desktop sims, and DiL assessments
  • Skills in data reduction, correlation, and interpretation from on-track tests, rig evaluations, and DIL simulator sessions
  • Experience mining prior event data for performance trends and analyzing competitor performance using telemetry, timing, scoring data, and race strategy tools
  • Capability to review correlation quality, recommendation accuracy, and process improvements, and to conceptualize/develop new tools and methods
  • Willingness to travel to occasional IndyCar events for at-track engineering support

Responsibilities

  • Assist GM IndyCar race teams in utilizing GM Motorsports toolchain and provide vehicle performance insights
  • Utilize vehicle simulation tools to characterize event-specific sensitivities and derive vehicle configuration directions and setup recommendations
  • Convey findings through regular written reports distributed to GM IndyCar teams
  • Develop race team understanding of simulation toolchain functionality and best modeling/analysis practices
  • Support race teams and GM Motorsports engineers in setup and use of Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulators
  • Correlate vehicle models by comparing logged track data with model output and develop relationships between performance/handling metrics and driver-perceived behavior
  • Fit collected data and develop inputs for simulation modeling
  • Mine prior event data for performance trends and characterize competitor performance
  • Actively review quality of correlation, accuracy of previous recommendations, and process bottlenecks to identify enhancements and develop new tools/methods
  • Provide engineering support for rig and track tests, including developing test plans, data analysis, and training team personnel on tools and simulation output
  • Travel to occasional IndyCar events to support at-track engineering efforts
  • Build GM Motorsports program by furthering global performance initiatives
