Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts
  • Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages
  • Experience with State and Federal transportation design standards (Virginia design procedures and standards a plus)
  • Experience with Microstation and InRoads required (latest version of Power Inroads SS4, Connect Edition or Open Roads a plus)
  • Prior work experience with Municipal and State DOTs preferred (prior work with VDOT and/or other Virginia localities a plus)
  • Experience in advanced intersection and roadway corridor modeling a plus
  • Experience with AutoCad and/or Civil3D a plus
  • GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth a plus
  • Experience with SignCAD, AutoTurn, and/or ASTA project scheduling a plus
  • Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members

  • Collection of data
  • Existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports
  • Development of horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Performing cross section and superelevation design
  • Roadside barrier design
  • ADA curb ramp design
  • Roadway modeling
  • Providing design support for erosion and sediment control plans
  • Providing design support for stormwater management plans
  • Providing design support for right-of-way plans
  • Providing design support for utility relocation plans
  • Providing design support for permit application drawings
  • Providing design support for traffic related plans
  • Support a variety of projects (may involve other AMT offices and project opportunities)
