Requirements

  • Expertise in design and analysis of high-performance storage systems and subsystems, focusing on HDD housing
  • Knowledge of shock, vibration, thermal, acoustic, and environmental challenges in field deployments
  • Design and working knowledge of HDDs to influence enclosure designs including sheet metal, plastic components, PCBs, and system fans
  • Ability to collect and analyze population-level data using statistical methods and HDD functional knowledge
  • Experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS for part design, study, tool, and fixture design
  • Proficiency in data acquisition and analysis from sensors using Matlab scripting
  • Role as lead HDD subject matter expert for datacenter storage systems including sheet metal, plastic parts, assemblies, SSDs, fans, power supplies, PCBs, and rack hardware
  • Mechanical engineering expertise in providing quiescent environments for HDDs
  • Ability to conduct HDD-level and system-level analysis of HDD arrays, interactions with vibration, and acoustic noise
  • Ability to interact with HDD servo development, enclosure development, program management teams, and hyper-scale customers
  • Capability to direct/lead the work of others

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust products for OEM and data center markets that withstand shock, vibration, thermal, acoustic, and environmental challenges
  • Apply HDD knowledge to design other enclosure portions and system components
  • Work alongside HDD development and enclosure team members
  • Collect population-level data for enclosures and analyze HDD interactions using statistical methods
  • Utilize shock, vibration, and acoustic experience to optimize enclosure designs and develop intellectual property
  • Use SolidWorks and ANSYS for part design, studies, and tool/fixture design
  • Perform data acquisition and analysis from sensors using Matlab scripting
  • Serve as lead HDD subject matter expert and resource for enclosure development teams
  • Analyze HDD and system-level performance, including interactions within arrays and with noise sources
  • Interact with HDD servo team, enclosure development, program management, and hyper-scale customers
  • Direct/lead work of others
