Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year work experience in inventory control and management, material handling, warehousing, or related experience
  • Ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds; successful completion of the Physical Ability Test (PAT)
  • Appropriate State driver's license
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL); must obtain within six months if required
  • Crane Certification if required: obtain within 1 year after CDL (within 2 attempts) and maintain periodic recertification
  • Meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law
  • Basic computer skills to use inventory management software such as Maximo, Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment including motorized forklifts and road vehicles
  • Acquire qualifications for next higher classification in line of progression within company-determined timeframe

Responsibilities

  • Issue material under proper authorization; process and file required records, including picking up, hauling, and delivering materials; operate company automotive equipment such as cars and trucks
  • Check received material for quantity; visually inspect for identity, breakage, and condition; unload and put away; initiate and process material receipt and related records
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions
  • Identify, sort, and record material returned; place usable material in stock; sort non-usable material into scrap containers; record applicable information and process related records
  • Assist with processing order picks for satellite storeroom and complete related records
  • Operate computer terminals, printers, and other office equipment (calculators, scanners) supporting materials management system
  • Prepare and pack material for shipment or storage, including shipping papers and related records; handle hazardous materials (gasoline, oil, PCB-containing oil, lead-acid batteries) under safety and environmental procedures
  • Operate material handling equipment (hand trucks, forklift trucks, low lift trucks, hoists, overhead cranes, order pickers)
  • Assist in maintaining efficient storage of materials; rearrange or change bins and racks; make material location changes
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels through cycle counts; perform discrepancy adjustments with approval and process records
  • Assist employees of equal or higher classification; perform similar or less skilled work
  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety rules, operating regulations, and practices
