Candidates require at least 3 years of experience managing a team and overseeing software release processes in a software development organization. Demonstrated success shipping cross-platform products across mobile (Android & iOS) and desktop environments is necessary. Strong analytical skills and experience with metrics, telemetry, and data platforms (e.g., SQL, Looker, Redash, Tableau, custom dashboards, ETL) are required. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, release tooling, version control systems, issue tracking systems (Bugzilla, Jira, GitHub), Apple App Store/Google Play release processes, staged rollout best practices, and desktop distribution platforms (Windows store, Flatpak/Snap, deb/RPM repositories) is essential. Experience in mobile release automation and experimentation frameworks (e.g., A/B testing), a background in open source development or community collaboration, and knowledge of software quality practices, security, performance, and privacy considerations are also required. Excellent communication and organizational skills, especially in remote and asynchronous settings, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and build alignment across diverse technical teams are crucial.
The Manager, Release Management will lead and support the release management team overseeing Firefox releases on Desktop, Android, and iOS. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute pre-release validation strategies, ensuring timely, stable, and secure product releases with comprehensive test coverage, in-depth risk analysis, and proactive issue management. This role involves designing and improving metrics, dashboards, and tools to inform decisions, measure quality, and track release health. Responsibilities include developing and implementing processes to optimize the release cadence and support phased rollout strategies, driving automation and operational excellence to scale release activities across platforms, and coordinating across time zones and stakeholders, including volunteers and community contributors.
