Requirements

  • Ability to assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead/underground facilities under direct/immediate supervision
  • Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties under immediate/direct supervision
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
  • After D-100 or equivalent: Operate company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lifts), climb poles/ladders/structures, work on de-energized conductors/equipment; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under direct supervision
  • After D-200 or equivalent: Operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification; operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, sectionalizing devices, refuse line/transformer devices under direct supervision (progressing to general supervision)
  • After D-300 or equivalent: Test de-energized overhead lines/equipment, install/remove personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
  • Assemble/install line material/hardware under direct/immediate supervision; use/store hand lines, tie knots, basic knowledge of ropes/rigging; splice primary/secondary overhead wires using proper tools/hardware
  • Inspect/maintain tools, equipment, work area safely; identify/inspect/use/maintain rubber gloves/sleeves (PIPE), insulating blankets/hoses/covers (IPE); inspect/maintain/organize/stock vehicles/equipment/tools; perform housekeeping; report irregularities
  • Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue (as training completed)
  • Protect/control work area: set/remove barricades, flags, signs, cones, equipment
  • Maintain accurate records/reports; read/record kilowatt-hour meter readings; complete/submit Monthly Apprentice Cards
  • Live within 25-mile radius of Natchitoches Service Center

Responsibilities

  • Assist in installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission/distribution facilities
  • Drive/operate line trucks and auxiliary equipment
  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground/overhead facilities under supervision
  • Perform ground person duties under supervision
  • Load/unload/handle/maintain/install/remove poles, towers, structures
  • Operate equipment, climb structures, work on de-energized/energized (up to 260V) conductors per training level and supervision
  • Assemble/install line material/hardware; use ropes/rigging; splice wires
  • Operate sectionalizing devices under supervision per training
  • Test lines, install/remove protective grounds per training
  • Inspect/maintain tools/equipment/work area/vehicles; use/maintain PPE; housekeeping; report issues
  • Execute rescues as trained
  • Control work area with traffic safety equipment
  • Maintain records/reports; read meters; submit apprentice cards
  • Perform similar/less skilled or miscellaneous related work as assigned
