Requirements

  • Reside within 45 minutes of the Pulaski Service Center (4600 Newbern Road, Pulaski, VA 24301)
  • Completion of D-100 or equivalent experience: Operate Company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lift vehicles), climb poles/ladders/structures, work on de-energized conductors/equipment; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under direct supervision
  • Completion of D-200 or equivalent experience: Operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification; operate cutouts/line switches/reclosers/sectionalizing devices/refuse line/transformer devices under direct/immediate/general supervision
  • Completion of D-300 or equivalent experience: Test de-energized overhead lines/equipment, install/remove personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
  • Ability to competently perform ground person duties under immediate/direct supervision
  • Basic working knowledge of ropes, rigging equipment inspection/use, hand lines, tie knots
  • Ability to splice primary/secondary overhead wires using proper tools/hardware/equipment (including crimping/compression tools)
  • Ability to safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue processes as training is completed
  • Ability to identify, inspect, use, and maintain rubber gloves/sleeves (PIPE), insulating blankets/hoses/covers (IPE)
  • Ability to read/record information and registered readings on analog/digital kilowatt-hour meters

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and associated equipment on de-energized/grounded overhead/underground facilities under direct/immediate supervision
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
  • Assemble and install line material/hardware under direct/immediate supervision
  • Inspect and maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a safe, clean, orderly fashion
  • Inspect, maintain, organize, operate, and stock company vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned; report irregularities/abnormal conditions
  • Protect/control work area: Set/remove barricades, flags, signs, cones, and associated equipment
  • Maintain accurate records, submit accurate reports, complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for review
  • Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned
  • Perform all types of work involved with installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission/distribution facilities (overhead/underground as applicable); miscellaneous related/incidental work
