Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Board of Nursing with an active license in the state of practice upon hire
  • Associate's Science in Medical Assisting from an accredited university/college and/or 3-5 years hospital, medical office, clinic, or hospital business operations experience
  • Preferred: 4-6 years hospital, medical office, clinic, hospital business operations and/or Admitting Department experience
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Must live within 150 miles of Sioux Falls to commute if technical issues arise
  • Orientation is all onsite for 6-8 weeks, then work onsite for 6-8 months before option to work from home

Responsibilities

  • Respond to outpatient diagnostic orders from physicians for hospital departments; interpret physician requests for diagnostic tests and schedule single to multiple tests according to required patient care protocols
  • Determine medical necessity validation and handle medical information along with transcribing medical orders into the health information system
  • Obtain information (including physician orders) from physician offices for scheduling tests, procedures, and admissions in an accurate, timely, and sequential manner
  • Incorporate faxed data (e.g., History and Physical, physician orders, patient data) by logging into computer
  • Demonstrate good rapport, continual education updates, and cooperative working relationship with physician office staff, all hospital departments, physicians, and co-workers
  • Assist the Manager in maintaining technology application, including accurate centralized scheduling dictionaries, on-line instructions, monitoring data integrity, suggesting upgrades for Meditech requests, order entry, and implementing system upgrades
  • Provide timely information to the Manager regarding the Centralized Scheduling process, staffing, and customer service
  • Assist with staff orientation and in-services, ensure competencies are obtained, and maintain statistical information for appropriate staff scheduling
  • Ensure medical necessity by reviewing physician orders and diagnosis, assure follow-up for physician offices and patients as necessary
  • Ensure adequate information and notification of LMRP (Local Medical Review Policies) throughout the scheduling process
