Requirements

  • Experience driving complex technical projects from conception to delivery while coding alongside the team
  • Ability to provide people leadership to a small group of direct reports (3-5 engineers)
  • Hands-on technical expertise in iOS and Android mobile applications, including real-time Bluetooth/Wi-Fi communication with IoT hardware
  • Proficiency in processing massive datasets and maintaining sub-second response times across distributed systems
  • Skills in debugging cross-platform problems spanning mobile/firmware/backend
  • Familiarity with codebase review and identifying technical improvements
  • Ability to own delivery of major features and jump into production issues
  • Experience understanding problem spaces, partnering with stakeholders to shape project scope, and creating Engineering Requirements Docs (ERDs)
  • Capability to establish regular 1:1 cadence with direct reports, provide feedback, and discuss professional development
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Design, QA, and other stakeholders
  • Leadership in cross-team technical initiatives, establishing code quality standards, and mentoring junior & senior engineers
  • Proficiency in breaking down complex projects into concurrent tasks, advocating for incremental shipping, and sharing progress openly
  • Experience setting goals, learning plans, identifying growth opportunities, and guiding engineers technically and professionally
  • Ability to serve as Engineering partner to Pillar leader & product manager, determining resourcing needs, and driving team to meet business goals
  • Capacity to drive business strategy through mobile initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Begin Pillar rotation to get up to speed and understand Hatch's operations
  • Ship first code to production and establish credibility with the engineering team
  • Review existing codebase and identify immediate technical improvements
  • Own delivery of major features, jump into production issues or improvements, and debug cross-platform problems
  • Contribute to Kids Pillar service transition initiatives, building features that drive daily app engagement beyond the sound player
  • Understand problem spaces, partner with stakeholders to shape project scope, and bring ERDs to Engineering Forums
  • Take on direct reports, establish regular 1:1 cadence, provide feedback, and discuss professional development
  • Work closely with Product, Design, QA, and other stakeholders to scope, plan, and rapidly ship features
  • Lead cross-team technical initiatives, establish team standards for code quality, and mentor junior & senior engineers
  • Break down complex projects into concurrent tasks, advocate for incremental shipping, and share progress openly
