Requirements

Candidates should have 5-8+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineering teams. A strong background in JavaScript and backend development is required, along with expertise in Python and industry-standard frameworks like Django or Flask. Experience with Docker, cloud technologies such as AWS, and database design skills are also necessary. A BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is preferred. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, collaborative, diligent, excellent communicators, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to take ownership.

Responsibilities

The Lead Engineer will directly lead a pod of engineers responsible for Canary's core products, setting an example for code quality and velocity. They will define and own the evolution of the overall architecture based on engineering and product needs, and actively participate in product decision-making by understanding metrics and customer usage. Responsibilities include independently mentoring engineers, building engineering execution plans, breaking down and assigning work, running pod processes autonomously, and escalating issues appropriately. The role also involves active participation in hiring and interviewing.
