Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Basic understanding of steel materials and industrial tools
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs. occasionally, 30 lbs. frequently; up to 100 lbs. occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, 20 lbs. constantly in heavy work)
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, including frequent lifting, bending, and standing
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Familiarity with basic safety practices in an industrial environment
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, noise, temperature changes, proximity to moving mechanical parts/vehicles, electrical current, high heat, chemicals)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, if necessary
  • Previous experience in a steel mill, fabrication shop, or industrial setting is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of welding, grinding, or machine operation is advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, and move steel materials manually or using equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or pallet jacks
  • Assist in organizing and staging materials for production or shipment
  • Assist skilled workers in cutting, welding, grinding, or shaping steel
  • Prepare work areas by gathering tools, setting up equipment, and cleaning up after tasks are completed
  • Clean and maintain tools, machines, and work areas to ensure optimal performance and safety
  • Report any damaged equipment or safety hazards to supervisors
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Comply with company policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment
