Requirements

  • Current Driver's License and own transportation (most job sites are not served by public transportation)
  • Current Journeyman/Journeywoman Electrical License
  • High School Graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent training
  • 5 years or more of previous electrical experience
  • Ability to work in all elements (heat, cold, rain, snow)
  • Ability to use construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns)
  • Ability to carry personal tools (waist tool belt weighs approximately 30 lbs.)
  • Ability to use ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, extension ladders) and carry/relocate up to 12' step ladder alone
  • Ability to work at various heights (up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe work areas)
  • Ability to work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics)
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses at all times), respirator when required
  • Ability to perform repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
  • Ability to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts
  • Positively identify colors of wires
  • Comprehend reading and drawing prints and schematics
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders
  • Use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches
  • Capable of digging trenches using hand tools or power equipment
  • Operate equipment, including trencher

Responsibilities

  • Perform all electrical tasks with minimal general supervision
  • May be part of a crew or the lead person directing the crew
  • Direct less experienced apprentices and helpers
  • Supervise and work with the crew
  • Install all work
  • Troubleshoot motors, controls, circuits, and equipment
  • Perform layout and interpret blueprints efficiently
  • Perform rigging and set-up for all operations
  • Possess basic electrical theory knowledge
  • Use skills of lower E-Rating Job Titles (E-5, E-4, E-3, E-2, E-1)
  • Perform installation, alterations, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment
