Requirements

  • Adheres to the Organization’s Compliance Program, including all regulatory and policy requirements
  • Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures, radiological equipment operation, and quality control
  • Ability to maintain sterile technique during procedures
  • Compliance with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality
  • Familiarity with organization’s medication labeling policy for drawing up intravenous medication
  • Skills in processing x-ray images and archiving to repositories (CD/DVD)
  • Understanding of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools and practices
  • Ability to ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant
  • Capability to inspect equipment daily and make recommendations for repairs/replacements
  • Knowledge of patient billing, including CPT and ICD-9 codes

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in performing interventional radiology procedures
  • Operates and performs quality control on radiological equipment per policies and procedures
  • Prepares patient and procedure room, including reviewing orders, setting up/stocking supplies and trays, and cleaning post-procedure
  • Explains procedures to patients, answers questions, addresses concerns, and prepares patients (positioning, shaving, prepping)
  • Performs patient transfers and transports to/from procedure room
  • Inputs patient data into C-Arm and acts as scrub assistant during procedures, administering fluoroscopy while maintaining sterile technique
  • Draws up and labels intravenous medication per policy
  • Processes x-ray images and archives to repository/CD/DVD
  • Supports quality standards through CQI, implements quality goals/action plans, and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Maintains accurate medical records, performs audits, and ensures environmental integrity (cleanliness, safety)
  • Inspects equipment daily, assists with hazardous waste disposal, and manages supplies to prevent waste
  • Participates in Governing Body and CQI meetings, communicates with physicians, addresses concerns, and ensures necessary instruments/equipment availability
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees
  • Reviews procedures for accurate and timely patient billing, documenting charges and verifying codes
  • Assists with inventory and ordering of supplies
