Requirements

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.), ideally in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field
  • Proven track record as an information scientist, or in a similar role
  • At least 5 years of experience, ideally within a chemical R&D or manufacturing environment, with a preference for the polyurethane industry
  • Proficient in utilizing industry-leading systems such as Orbit Intelligence, Espacenet, PubMed, ScienceDirect, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of how AI can enhance data analysis and information retrieval (highly desirable)
  • Solid understanding of patent processes and legislation, or a keen interest in gaining expertise in this area
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility; promote safety behaviour
  • Conduct research and analysis on patent and scientific information including prior art, patentability, and freedom to operate searches; prepare well-structured datasets and clear reports based on findings
  • Track R&D trends and assess competitor IP landscapes; prepare well-structured datasets and clear reports based on findings
  • Work in close collaboration with GR, GT&I and IP teams to design and implement effective search strategies that uncover relevant scientific and intellectual property (IP) data, supporting key research inquiries
  • Leverage analytical insights to identify new opportunities and actively contribute to idea generation, the development of project pipeline, and the advancement of innovation initiatives
  • Support knowledge management efforts by organizing and maintaining access to patent and scientific publications and competitor data
  • Stay current with developments in knowledge management systems and AI tools, evaluate their effectiveness, and curate relevant documentation
  • Maintain and optimize internal systems for patent and scientific information, and handle official documentation in communications with IP attorneys
  • Implement and regularly update monitoring processes to ensure that the search for relevant scientific and IP documentation aligns with the evolving needs of project portfolio
  • Perform searches, initial evaluations and recommendations related to IP, including patentability, freedom to operate, prior art; maintain PU watch on competitors’ patent publications; manage IP reviews and action trackers for GR, GT&I and IP teams
