Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of exposure to industrial instrumentation and controls and/or electrical systems
- Must be able to work from specifications, detailed drawings, blueprints, prints, schematics, single lines, and wiring diagrams
- Must have a thorough knowledge of meters, gauges, and other instruments and controls, together with associated pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical connections
- Must have knowledge of the tools used in maintenance, adjustment, and repair of instruments and controls
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at higher elevations on platforms, scaffolds, grating, etc
- Must have all qualifications of a Maintenance Apprentice
Responsibilities
- Inspects, tests, adjusts, troubleshoots, calibrates, and repairs process controls when equipment is in or out of service
- Works closely with station operators while making repairs and adjustments to control circuits
- Operates valves to properly cut trips and control equipment in and out of service
- Blows out lines for primary metering, controls, and trips using air or other fluid medium to keep lines open
- Troubleshoots, tests, calibrates, and repairs various types of electrical control circuits such as analog, digital, distributed control systems, protective trip, or interlock circuits using a multimeter
- Runs conduit, installs necessary clamps and supports, pulls conductors, makes connections, locates trouble on power and control circuits, and makes repairs
- Meggers and tests insulation resistance on electrical equipment; adjusts and renews brushes on rotating equipment
- Repairs and adjusts various low and high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic control systems and components
- Installs new control equipment
- Works in close cooperation with employees of other departments, vendors, and others for troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying control systems and components
- Directs others in tests of equipment for performance, efficiency, or calibration; analyzes results and makes recommendations for optimum performance or repair
- Maintains equipment associated with nuclear radioactive sources, runs tests, and calibrates as required
- Maintains software changes for process control systems
- Troubleshoots and makes repairs to controls containing higher voltages such as exciters, uninterruptible power supplies, variable speed drives
- Verifies field-marked process control system drawings prior to submittal for changes
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates Stack Gas Emission monitoring equipment such as Opacity monitors and Continuous Emission Monitors
- Maintains safe work practices utilizing all safety-related equipment, materials, and training
- Instructs and trains employees in any classification in their work
- Installs meters, relays, recorders, switches, and similar equipment on switchboards and makes necessary wiring connections
- Tapes high voltage connections (above 6900v)
- Performs similar or less-skilled work
