Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the site HSE strategy to enhance the Safety & Health Management System to meet and exceed ISO 45001, internal/external audit requirements, local/national regulatory requirements, and Mars Global Safety & Health Standards
  • Develop and implement the facility’s Environmental Management System and Sustainability Programs to meet and exceed local regulatory requirements, ISO 14001, and Mars Global Environmental Standards
  • Set HSE targets together with multiple stakeholders and deliver against them
  • Deploy all company HSE Standards as they specifically apply to the site
  • Execute all site environmental compliance programs, including air, storm water, water, spill control, and wastewater; ensure all required testing is met on time
  • Manage the site's hazardous waste management activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations and standards
  • Develop and deploy site-specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best-in-class organization
  • Deliver training and coaching to establish clear understanding and engagement by all site associates on HSE expectations
  • Investigate all HSE-related incidents using specific tools to identify root causes and actions to prevent recurrence; drive completion of corrective actions, including those from other site incidents
  • Serve as an HSE technical expert, providing expertise and coaching in all areas and initiatives, including capital project review and risk management for non-capital modifications
  • Ensure the site emergency response team (ERT) has the tools, skills, and knowledge to respond to site HSE emergencies
  • Lead site efforts to measure and improve Industrial Hygiene Risk (e.g., ergonomics, dust, noise, chemical exposure); coordinate necessary IH and audiometric monitoring
  • Own the site Contractor Safety program to reduce risks from construction and trade contractors; ensure project managers are accountable for contractor management
  • Own site security requirements to meet corporate standards, including oversight of security operations and management of contract security providers
  • Manage Risk Management activities for asset conservation and property loss control; drive timely corrective actions from third-party loss risk assessments and audits
  • Work with third-party risk control experts to ensure compliance on new projects; support audit efforts to maintain/improve insurance ratings
  • Together with HR, manage worker’s compensation claims and incident follow-through
