Responsibilities

  • Lead two or more product lines within a territory and/or two or more territories within a product line for Financial Lines
  • Handle referral decisions for complex risks in the portfolio
  • Develop, implement and evaluate underwriting strategies and guidelines within a region, including pricing, marketing, staff, business development, renewals, budget/expenses and new product development
  • Manage product line to desired objectives, making decisions in response to market conditions and provide necessary training within respective zone
  • Plan, manage, and evaluate work of staff; make decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing
  • Handle referrals on difficult and/or unique risks or larger more sophisticated deals within stated authority
  • Manage relationships between local customers and distribution partners
  • Collaborate with Zone Executive and Underwriting Managers to develop and execute a local strategic vision
  • Drive talent management, including attracting, managing, developing and retaining talent
  • Facilitate local decision making while ensuring consistent execution of strategic initiatives
  • Assess underwriting skills of underwriters, delegate underwriting authority based on demonstrated skills, and create a plan to increase underwriting technical capabilities
  • Drive consistent underwriting best practices and guidelines to ensure rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring adequacy
  • Apply deep knowledge of market and industry to advise others and provide guidance on complex risks, exposures, and decisions
  • Ensure effective utilization of detailed monitoring standards including quality reviews and self-audits to assess underwriting results and compliance
  • Execute division marketing strategy and represent AIG in the marketplace
  • Own relationships between insureds and distribution partners in the territory
  • Lead unit to achieve established goals and objectives for penetration, volume and profitability
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Claim, Actuarial, Legal, Regulatory and Product Development to maintain highest standards of product line profitability, marketability and regulatory compliance
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion; conduct talent acquisition, employee engagement and performance monitoring/evaluation; lead by example
