Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical/Production/Automobile)
  • Post-Graduation/master’s degree/Diploma (Tool & Die making or equivalent) preferred
  • Expert level proficiency in Creo (surface modelling, solid modelling, sheet metal etc.)
  • Expert level proficiency in Teamcentre or equivalent PLM tool
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Record of delivering minimum 10+ strong design projects
  • Experience working on tool room manufacturing processes
  • Experience on minimum 5 projects from scratch till proto/production
  • Understanding of various mechanical systems, relations between systems/components, and their failure modes
  • Experience resolving field failures/part fit-up issues
  • Experience on reverse engineering projects/with Industrial design team
  • Handled cost saving or quality improvement projects
  • Strong knowledge of plastic product design principles (part thickness, ribs design, gussets, boss, dog house etc.)
  • Ability to validate & qualify parts for manufacturability (draft analysis, min. radius checks, uniform wall thickness etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in mold manufacturing processes (injection moulding, vacuum forming, FRP, roto moulding)
  • Knowledge and experience in tool room machining processes (CNC, EDM, milling, wire cut etc.)
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret FEA reports and mold flow analysis outcomes
  • Strong technical expertise to develop new design concepts/proposals and drive decisions with data, facts, & logics
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Plan FEA & test requirements
  • Connect with suppliers and witness trials
  • Work with cross-functional teams to prove the design
  • Ensure product meets Caterpillar standards within defined time and cost targets
  • Collaborate across organizational/sub-system teams
  • Work with suppliers, buyers, SDEs to provide engineering support for part development
  • Provide technical support in day-to-day activities
  • Develop master sections
  • Convert ID sketches into concepts
  • Take individual design decisions
