Requirements

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Certification in clinical or safety specialty within first five years of employment
  • Associate's in Safety, Security, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent experience (preferred: Associate's in Emergency/Disaster Management or related field)
  • Driver's License - Licensing Board
  • 1-3 years experience in Incident Command Systems for emergency response
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Security and Emergency Preparedness in planning, organizing, and directing Environment of Care (EC) programs
  • Assist in managing the planning, coordination, and evaluation of Avera's Management Plans for Safety, Hazardous Materials and Waste, and Fire Prevention as mandated by Joint Commission Standards
  • Plan and coordinate safety training curriculum and presentation for new employee orientation and annual review; prepare agendas, finalized minutes, trending sheets, and oversee publication of information to staff
  • Develop and oversee emergency management plans and solutions for timely and effective disaster preparedness
  • Perform preventative maintenance and testing on emergency response assets (decontamination equipment, command center systems, emergency communications equipment)
  • Respond to emergency situations including external/internal disasters, evacuations, hazardous material spills, patient decontamination events, and fires
  • Prepare and present emergency management education programs
  • Assure compliance with federal regulations for NIMS and ICS in facility emergency preparedness and response
  • Inventory and audit emergency response supplies and equipment per HRSA grant requirements
  • Implement emergency management corrective action plans as directed
  • Prepare written policy and program drafts for Leadership and Emergency Preparedness/Environment of Care Committees
  • Prepare and conduct emergency exercises; coordinate with local, regional, and state organizations
  • Implement compliance initiatives for The Joint Commission Emergency Management Standards
  • Investigate emergency management grant opportunities
