High School diploma supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work
Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electricity or Electronics preferred
Journeyman license with 3+ years previous experience preferred
Ability to make rough sketches, estimate cost, time, and materials of electrical work
Ability to analyze and respond safely and appropriately to emergency situations
Ability to perform preventive maintenance on switch gears and transformers
Ability to read and comprehend plans and blueprints as appropriate to trade
Ability to perform heavy physical labor
Ability to train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area
Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships
Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population
Thorough knowledge of electricity theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the electrical trade
Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade
Knowledge of computer logic and programming
Inspection, identification, and knowledge of all electrical distribution systems (24-12K volts)
Knowledge of methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
Knowledge of safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment
Knowledge of safe use of manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades
Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards
Proficient in Word and Excel
Valid driver’s license
Ability to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time
Ability to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, kneel, push/pull, and handle/grip frequently
Comfortable working in varying temperatures
Ability to work scheduled 40 hours with overtime as needed

Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical distribution systems including electric motors, electric controls, fire alarms, and process equipment
Ensure fire alarms and emergency electrical systems are operational and perform testing on alarm systems
Install, troubleshoot, and repair new equipment and systems (performing both electrical and mechanical repair)
Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and report back to supervisor
Assist in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction
Operate power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment
Read electrical circuit diagrams
Requisition material and supplies from stockroom, call vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommend purchases and suppliers
Maintain appropriate service and repair records using CMMS system for work order documentation
Research purchases and inventory equipment parts, chemicals, and supplies
Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
Train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area
Assist and serve as backup to other Facilities employees
Act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area
Perform work in the installation, construction, modification, repair, and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment, and systems under general supervision
