Requirements

Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a Ph.D. being highly preferred, and demonstrate at least 8 years of experience in applied machine learning, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role. Strong technical expertise in AI/ML, including deep learning, natural language processing, and model deployment, is essential, along with experience building and deploying large-scale ML systems. Proven ability to lead and manage large, cross-functional teams is also required.

Responsibilities

The Director of Applied ML will define the long-term vision and strategy for the Applied AI team, aligning it with Cohere’s overall goals and market needs, and determine the strategic direction for custom model development. They will lead and mentor a diverse team of ML engineers and scientists, fostering innovation and continuous learning, and work closely with the executive team to prioritize strategic customer engagements. Furthermore, the Director will act as a trusted advisor to customers, understanding their needs and translating them into actionable product requirements, and oversee the development of scalable abstractions and frameworks to accelerate solution delivery, while also evaluating and improving model performance across enterprise use cases.
