Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience
  • At least 10 years of privacy, compliance, risk management, legal or audit experience
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams or people management
  • Preferred: Juris Doctor or Master’s degree
  • Preferred: 8+ years of privacy, compliance, risk management, legal or audit experience at a financial institution
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience in strategic consulting and strategic initiative management
  • Preferred: 3+ years of people management experience
  • Preferred: Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Risk Professional (CRP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)
  • Demonstrated results orientation and focus on achieving both short- and long-term goals
  • Ability to balance operating independently with appropriate escalation and interaction with senior leadership
  • Proven track record of supporting and working across business lines and functions, job levels, and with a senior management team
  • Subject matter expertise in key regulatory and audit requirements and three lines of defense risk management framework
  • Ability to navigate “white space” or ambiguous situations to influence and execute an agenda in a fluid environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills (written and oral) coupled with strategic influencing skills
  • Strong judgment, integrity, and discretion in handling highly sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge first line of defense activities

Responsibilities

  • Actively follow privacy trends, including the development of new privacy laws and emerging privacy risks domestically and internationally
  • Maintain subject matter expertise of applicable privacy international and domestic laws and regulations, including but not limited to TCPA, TSR, CAN-SPAM, GLBA, FCRA, FACTA, FFIEC guidance, CCPA, GDPR, and UK GDPR
  • Provide advice and effective challenge to the business and to management on the company’s compliance processes, procedures, and systems supporting the privacy compliance program
  • Advise business lines on the application of privacy requirements to business initiatives and changes, the development of controls and monitoring, remediation/corrective action of compliance breakdowns, and changes in law or regulation, consistently with our Compliance Management Program
  • Prepare management reporting on privacy compliance activities
  • Consult with legal counsel and other subject matter experts as necessary to address privacy compliance matters
  • Travel to various Capital One locations as necessary
