The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for fostering a high-performing editorial team. They will have demonstrable experience in management and leadership of editors and reporters as part of a reputable newsroom in a similar role. They will have applicable experience with editing and writing copy to high standards for news journalism.
The Deputy Managing Editor will assist Newsweek editorial leadership with editorial performance management, operations and administration to ensure the smooth functioning of the newsroom, with a focus on maintaining productivity, high standards and best practices among journalists and editors. This includes implementing performance goals and objectives for the editorial team, conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback, developing and implementing performance improvement plans, monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure team objectives are met, collaborating with other departments to align editorial goals with overall company strategy, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members, and addressing performance issues and implementing corrective actions as needed. They will also be responsible for ensuring Newsweek delivers high-quality reporting that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.
