Requirements

  • United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance (e.g. Active TS/SCI with agency appropriate polygraph)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field (e.g. Computer Information Systems, Engineering, physical/hard sciences like physics/chemistry/biology/astronomy, or other science disciplines with substantial computational component), with concentration of 5+ courses in advanced Mathematics (300-level or higher, e.g. linear algebra, probability/statistics, machine learning) and/or computer science (e.g. algorithms, programming, data structures, data mining, AI); or Associates Degree with additional experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or Associates Degree with 5 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience in designing/implementing machine learning, data science, advanced analytical algorithms, programming (skill in at least one high-level language, e.g. Python), statistical analysis (e.g. variability, sampling error, inference, hypothesis testing, EDA, linear models), data management (e.g. data cleaning/transformation), data mining, data modeling/assessment, AI, and/or software engineering (experience in more than one area strongly preferred)
  • Employ some combination (2 or more) of the following skill areas: I. Foundations (Mathematical, Computational, Statistical); 2. Data Processing (Data management/curation, data description/visualization, workflow/reproducibility); 3. Modeling, Inference, and Prediction (Data modeling/assessment, domain-specific considerations)

Responsibilities

  • Devise strategies for extracting meaning and value from large datasets
  • Make and communicate principled conclusions from data using mathematics, statistics, computer science, and application-specific knowledge
  • Develop and implement qualitative and quantitative methods for characterizing, exploring, and assessing large datasets in various states of organization, cleanliness, and structure, accounting for unique features and limitations in Agency data holdings, through analytic modeling, statistical analysis, programming, and/or other scientific methods
  • Translate practical mission needs and analytic questions related to large datasets into technical requirements, and assist others in drawing appropriate conclusions from data analysis
  • Effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Make informed recommendations regarding competing technical solutions by maintaining awareness of Agency collection, processing, storage, and analytic capabilities/limitations
