Position Overview

Relyance AI is seeking a Senior ML/NLP Engineer to strategize, drive, and execute initiatives in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for information extraction from legal documents and code, general Machine Learning (ML) in code analysis, and overall AI backend initiatives. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to design and build scalable, robust, and flexible features that enhance the impact of AI for our customers. This role involves working with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 and LLaMA 2, as well as models like T5 or BERT. You will be responsible for creating novel model architectures, developing ML/NLP techniques, building data curation and model training workflows, and performing error analysis to guide feature development. As a senior member, you will be instrumental in building a system with complex data and rapidly evolving predictions, requiring attention to detail, adaptability to change, a forward-thinking outlook, and the ability to be fast and scrappy.

Responsibilities

• Strategy: Leverage experience and understanding of ML/NLP feature development to achieve state-of-the-art results in real products. Generate data-driven insights to evolve Relyance AI's capabilities.
• Execution: Create practical ML and NLP solutions, making customer-centric prioritization decisions to balance immediate impact with long-term goals. Collaborate with other engineering teams to implement features end-to-end, particularly within data engineering systems like Airflow, VertexAI, BigQuery, or the Relyance backend.
• Design: Deeply understand system architecture and design for a balance between addressing current needs and incorporating state-of-the-art NLP and ML techniques. Continuously identify opportunities to automate and build tools to reduce operational barriers.
• Act as a key team member solving complex problems with simple, pragmatic solutions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a key member of teams building ML and NLP solutions, or a PhD in a relevant field, preferably with industry experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in languages such as Python, Java, C#, C++, Scala, etc.
• Strong skills in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented software design and implementation.
• Ability to learn and operate across the full stack, from ML/NLP systems to cloud infrastructure and AI backend.
• Experience as a creative and strategic thinker with a mindset for building powerful, robust, and flexible solutions.
• A "get stuff done" attitude with a willingness to be hands-on and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• A track record of successfully influencing product direction with a strong perspective that motivates engineers to develop simple, pragmatic solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, including clear and concise communication, active listening, empathy, and a respectful, collaborative approach.
