Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in a wide variety of expressive and recreational media, with a key focus on music or movement therapy
  • Thorough working knowledge of psychosocial functioning of patient/resident groups and application of expressive and recreational activities within a psychiatric setting (e.g., adventure-based activities, sports, group initiatives, arts/crafts, outdoor activities, art media, psychodrama, horticulture, ropes, challenge course)
  • Ability to develop, plan, implement, facilitate, coordinate, and evaluate experiential therapeutic programming based on patient needs in inpatient and outpatient levels of care
  • Ability to document within designated program areas
  • Ability to coordinate, evaluate, and mentor others within the team
  • Ability to maintain basic staffing needs and daily functioning of the department in the leader’s absence
  • Understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance guidelines
  • Good working knowledge of a variety of experiential therapies
  • Ability to complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Conduct self in a professional manner
  • Develop supportive, collaborative relationships with all disciplines to promote a positive, team-oriented approach to care
  • Provide leadership and role-modeling, incorporating group dynamics into the process
  • Communicate with individuals on a professional level
  • Attempt to resolve individual issues with peers in a positive, calm manner, focusing on solutions; demonstrate courteous, respectful demeanor in alignment with Rogers Behavior Agreements
  • Identify concerns and provide input for resolution
  • Participate in Mentorship Program
  • Participate in the Rogers Operating System (ROS), develop understanding of the ROS process, apply it to department functions, identify ROS concerns, educate employees on ROS plans, aid in development and monitoring of ROS services, take leadership in metric and data collection
  • Aid in continued updating and creation of new standard work for the department
  • Assist in hiring, training, and education of new employees under leadership direction (e.g., attend interviews, provide input on candidates)
  • Assist in educating staff in theory and philosophy of Experiential Therapy; train staff on patient/resident care programming as requested
  • Involve self in learning and application of regulatory standards relevant to Experiential Therapy department and assist newer staff
  • Attend informational meetings to increase awareness of regulations
  • Conduct experiential therapy as scheduled and proactively pick up additional groups when needed
  • Evaluate, plan, and coordinate programming to meet patients’/residents’ needs
  • Maintain supplies/equipment and spaces of the Experiential Therapy department
  • Be flexible with work assignments, including schedule changes and program additions
  • Help coordinate specialty programming (e.g., Pet Therapy, horticultural, waterfront, cross country skiing)
  • Demonstrate willingness to perform any/all duties within job capacity and professional credentials
  • Complete treatment plans and evaluations according to Experiential Therapy policy
  • Complete therapeutic documentation according to Rogers Policy
  • Assist with auditing documentation done by the team
