Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an academic field directly related and essential to the position
5+ years of experience, with 3+ years progressive experience in general safety and working with fire protection equipment, Hazmat Response, Department of Transportation; prior safety management experience
Standard computer skills
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers

Responsibilities

Direct safety programs for the site; recommend design and implementation of new programs to minimize losses due to accidents; measure effectiveness of programs
Lead compliance with OSHA regulations and OSHA/Tyson Foods Ergonomic program; inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions; maintain OSHA file and support documents; accompany OSHA inspector on inspections
Regularly inspect and review plant and live operations to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; report potential violations and recommend corrections
Analyze accident statistics to establish precautions and changes; communicate safety policy and procedure changes to management
Ensure all health & safety policies, procedures, and practices are reviewed annually or as required, and rolled out timely
Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field and take immediate corrective action if required
Review safety areas to determine causes, identify corrective actions, and conduct training in areas such as ergonomics, emergency response team, lockout/tag out, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment
Investigate all safety-related incidents, review reports, and complete necessary reports for insurance carrier, risk management system, and corporate safety office
Provide safety leadership and strategic direction; support site management with Safety Management system; formulate proactive local Safety strategy
Participate in developing safety vision; enhance programs and implement new ones; eliminate/prevent/reduce safety, health, and medical issues; develop safety culture; act as change agent for best practice sharing; serve as site's representative for Health and Safety
