Requirements

  • Ability to complete production paperwork or data entry into a computer-based tracking system
  • Ability to perform simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for recording information like bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality
  • Willingness to work in a biosecure environment, including showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility
  • Agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.) and abide by Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines
  • No jewelry except medical ID jewelry; body piercings covered by appropriate clothing
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds, and use tools like pallet jack for up to 2000 pounds
  • Ability to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces, walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend up to 300 times per day, talk/hear, and drive vehicles within the farm complex
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception

Responsibilities

  • Feed and water birds according to schedules; walk floors daily to inspect water lines, pick up and dispose of mortality, and examine birds for signs of weak or sick birds (20%)
  • Transfer birds from trailer to growout house and place in appropriate pens (10%)
  • Calculate pen size based on bird numbers, adjust for adequate feeder, water, and space; place pen partitions; manage floor by turning/adding shavings and checking ventilation (15%)
  • Sort birds by breast size (fleshing); assist farm crew with killvac; collect weekly samples for corporate lab (cleft palate swabs, feed, shavings) (15%)
  • Weigh birds and record weights for uniformity (15%)
  • Inspect birds weekly for quality and progress by weighing; maintain and sanitize breakroom, boot rooms, equipment, and vehicles; vaccinate and isolate birds for disease control; administer medications (vitamins, etc.); euthanize weak/ill birds per company policy (10%)
  • Attend to and care for birds in growout houses overall
