Position Overview

Spring Health is on a mission to revolutionize mental healthcare by removing every barrier that prevents people from getting the help they need, when they need it. Our clinically validated technology, Precision Mental Healthcare, empowers us to deliver the right care at the right time—whether it’s therapy, coaching, medication, or beyond—tailored to each individual’s needs.

We are looking for a Clinical Safety Officer to join our Health Economics & Outcomes Research team. You will own the operational and strategic oversight of safety monitoring for human use research, and lead the qualitative research activities to train, evaluate, and improve the safety and efficacy of the next generation of digital mental health tools.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data and engineering teams, using your clinical expertise to improve automated identification and response to clinical risk events in text data from digital tools.
  • Develop and maintain the comprehensive safety monitoring plan across research studies developing the next generation of digital mental health tooling.
  • Oversee adverse event (AE) and serious adverse event (SAE) management, ensuring collection, evaluation, and reporting per ICH-GCP and local regulations.
  • Interface with IRB, DSMB, and other safety monitoring boards.
  • Train study teams on safety processes, reporting timelines, and GCP requirements; serve as the escalation point for safety issues.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with participants to capture real-world clinical safety and efficacy insights and refine monitoring protocols.

What Success Looks Like

  • Developing and owning the processes to ensure safety in human use research.
  • 100% on-time submission of safety reports to IRB/DSMB.
  • High satisfaction scores from IRB/DSMB and internal stakeholders on safety documentation and responsiveness.
  • Driving observational coding studies to completion.
  • Translation of participant interview findings into clinical insights that inform tool development.

Requirements

  • Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) with 5+ years of post-licensure experience.
  • 2+ years of clinical safety oversight experience, ideally in digital health or AI-enabled tools.
  • Demonstrated experience coding live clinical sessions or transcripts to evaluate treatment fidelity and annotate key therapeutic processes.
  • Prior experience engaging with IRB, DSMB, or other safety monitoring boards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to translate complex safety findings for varied audiences.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with qualitative research methods—interview design, moderation, and thematic analysis.
  • Background in deploying automated safety monitoring or alerting systems.
  • Publications or presentations on patient safety or digital health research.
  • Passion for advancing AI ethics and safety in clinical settings.
