Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment, with license in good standing
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred
  • Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire, with annual re-certification
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire, with annual re-certification

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift
  • Serves as a resource person for staff and ensures delivery of high quality, patient-centered care
  • In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, directs, monitors, and evaluates patient care under the direction of nursing leadership
  • Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient and family advocacy, and demonstrates expertise in the seclusion and restraint process
  • Meets with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles and consistently demonstrates support to patient and the treatment process
  • Monitors staff to ensure an efficient, safe, and productive work environment, including delegation of staff assignments
  • Provides necessary staff coaching and support under the direction of nursing leadership
  • Oversees orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care
  • Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics
  • Supports facility efforts to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives
  • Assists with staff scheduling and manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines
  • Supports proper inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management
