Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment, with license in good standing
Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred
Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred
Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire, with annual re-certification
Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire, with annual re-certification

Responsibilities

Provides clinical and administrative supervision of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift
Serves as a resource person for staff and ensures delivery of high quality, patient-centered care
In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, directs, monitors, and evaluates patient care under the direction of nursing leadership
Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient and family advocacy, and demonstrates expertise in the seclusion and restraint process
Meets with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles and consistently demonstrates support to patient and the treatment process
Monitors staff to ensure an efficient, safe, and productive work environment, including delegation of staff assignments
Provides necessary staff coaching and support under the direction of nursing leadership
Oversees orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed
Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care
Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team
Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics
Supports facility efforts to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives
Assists with staff scheduling and manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines
Supports proper inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment
Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management
