Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements
  • Maintains knowledge in current practices related to principles and techniques of dialysis through participation in scheduled in-services
  • Functions as hemodialysis team leader with ability to provide day-to-day direction and supervision to direct patient care staff
  • Communicates effectively with physicians and healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans
  • Ensures compliance with company, facility procedures, state, and federal regulations
  • Participates in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
  • Approves or disapproves time or personnel schedule changes in absence of Facility Administrator
  • Supervises documentation of patient information
  • Assesses daily patient care needs and develops/distributes assignments
  • Assesses patient needs, responds to dialysis treatments, and communicates concerns to physicians
  • Administers medications per physician's orders
  • Admits new patients according to facility procedure
  • Educates patients and families on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication
  • Operates all dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assumes primary responsibility in emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff, including informal ongoing feedback and input for annual performance evaluations
  • Participates in patient care plan meetings
  • Trains and orients staff as necessary
  • Routinely observes and guides direct patient care staff for appropriate technique and adherence to policies/procedures
  • Promotes and assists with compliance to OSHA programs for a safe and clean working environment
  • Maintains overall shift operation in a safe, efficient, and effective manner
  • Conducts staff meetings at least monthly or as needed with Facility Administrator to inform staff of changes
  • Meets routinely with Facility Administrator to discuss personnel, patient care status, issues, and information
  • Coordinates Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs acting in relief charge capacity
  • Monitors and supervises all patient care activity during dialysis and assists as necessary
  • Collaborates with direct patient care team in decision-making to benefit patient care
  • Continuously monitors patient's condition for problems and potential complications associated with dialysis
  • Implements changes in patient care/treatment as directed
  • Acts as subject matter expert and resource for staff members
  • Supervises and participates in completion of short- and long-term care plans
  • Ensures educational needs of patients are met
  • Supervises safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care
  • Provides safe, effective delivery of patient care in compliance with standards, procedure manual, and regulations
