Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff
  • Participate in department staffing and hiring/disciplinary actions
  • Recommend disciplinary action to the Facility Administrator
  • Ensure compliance with company, facility, and regulatory policies
  • Approve/disapprove time/schedule changes in the absence of the Facility Administrator
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings
  • Train and orient staff as necessary
  • Observe and guide staff for appropriate technique and adherence to policies
  • Promote OSHA compliance
  • Maintain overall shift operation efficiently and effectively
  • Conduct staff meetings (monthly or as needed) to keep staff informed
  • Meet with the Facility Administrator to discuss personnel and patient care
  • Supervise all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop assignments
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergencies
  • Assess patient needs, respond to treatments, and communicate concerns
  • Implement changes in patient care/treatment as directed
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to complications
  • Administer medications per physician’s orders
  • Supervise completion of care plans
  • Admit new patients according to facility procedure
  • Meet educational needs of patients and educate them about End Stage Renal Disease
  • Supervise the safe and effective use of equipment
  • Operate dialysis equipment safely and efficiently
  • Complete Nurse’s Technical Training Program and assist with Water Quality
  • Participate in special projects
