Requirements
- Completion of a two- or three-year college program in chemical, biochemical or chemical engineering technology or a closely related discipline
- Experience with Ontario Regulation 347 of the Environmental Protection Act
- Minimum 3 years experience in hazardous waste processing and material handling
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement strategies
- Valid provincial driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work overtime on a regular basis
- Must be clean-shaven and able to wear all required safety equipment in both hot and cold temperatures
- Willingness to consent to a criminal background check
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team in a chemical waste consolidation/processing area
- Conduct onsite evaluations to assess, categorize and segregate hazardous waste materials
- Safely consolidate processable segregated waste for disposition
- Safely repack highly hazardous wastes for disposition
- Prepare and label bulk waste containers according to regulatory requirements and company policies
- Document and maintain accurate records of waste processing activities
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations involving hazardous materials
- Safe operation of lift trucks
- Occasional weekend work at company hosted household hazardous waste events
- Donning and use of task specific PPE
