Requirements

  • Functions as the hemodialysis team leader in chronic hemodialysis care and treatment
  • Provides day-to-day direction and supervision to assigned direct patient care staff
  • Communicates with physicians and healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans
  • Ensures safe, effective patient care delivery in compliance with facility procedures, company standards, state, and federal regulations
  • Adheres to FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Maintains knowledge of current dialysis principles and techniques through scheduled in-services
  • Participates in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
  • Ensures compliance with company/facility procedures, policies, and state/federal regulations (especially in clinics with >100 patients)
  • Approves/disapproves time or personnel schedule changes in Clinical Manager's absence, ensuring compliance
  • Supervises all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinates Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs in relief charge capacity
  • Assesses daily patient care needs and develops/distributes assignments
  • Assesses patient needs, responds to dialysis treatments, communicates concerns to physicians
  • Implements patient care/treatment changes as directed
  • Monitors and supervises patient care during dialysis, assists as necessary
  • Collaborates with direct patient care team for patient care decisions
  • Continuously monitors patient conditions for dialysis-related problems/complications
  • Administers medications per physician orders
  • Acts as subject matter expert and resource for staff
  • Supervises/participates in short- and long-term care plans
  • Admits new patients per facility procedure
  • Ensures patient/family education on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis, diet, and medications
  • Supervises safe/effective use of all direct patient care equipment
  • Operates dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely/efficiently when needed
  • Performs testing/verification and initials checklists for start-up/shut-down procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, direction to direct patient care staff; informal ongoing feedback and formal input for annual evaluations
  • Participate in staffing and appropriate hiring, firing, disciplinary actions; recommend/initiate as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures, policies, and regulations; approve/disapprove schedule changes in Clinical Manager's absence
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings
  • Train and orient staff as necessary
  • Routinely observe/guide staff for technique adherence to policies/procedures
  • Promote/assist OSHA compliance for safe/clean environment
  • Maintain overall shift operation safely, efficiently, effectively
  • Conduct staff meetings monthly (with Clinical Manager) or as needed to inform on changes/improvements
  • Meet routinely with Clinical Manager on personnel/patient care status, issues, information
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergencies
  • Supervise all patient care activity during dialysis
  • Participate in completion of care plans
  • Ensure educational needs of patients are met
