Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science (or commensurate experience in data structures/algorithms/distributed systems)
  • Ability to scale backend systems – sharding, partitioning, scaling horizontally are second nature
  • Desire to ship code and love of seeing code run in production
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges
  • Team player skills – embracing collaboration
  • Thorough understanding of engineering best practices (appropriate testing paradigms, effective peer code reviews, resilient architecture)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, test-driven, collaborative, and iterative programming environment
  • Skills to meet commitments on time and produce high-quality software (unit tested, code reviewed, regularly checked in for continuous integration)
  • Enthusiasm and openness to learning and developing skills alongside the team
  • Experience in distributed technologies, API and systems design, and writing high-scale code

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale services
  • Take ownership and be accountable for deliverables
  • Triage system issues and debug by analyzing sources of issues and impact on service operations
  • Mentor other engineers on web and backend services
  • Constantly re-evaluate products to improve architecture, testing coverage, knowledge models, user experience, performance, observability, and stability
  • Partner with product teams to understand needs, document new requirements with PMs, and implement new features in feature services
  • Collect and manage huge amounts of data, distilling it into easily digestible, powerful, and flexible reports
  • Build external customer-facing experiences (registration, onboarding, usage reporting) and internal systems/reports for engineering teams to executive leadership
  • Reduce friction between sales teams and customers, provide clarity to finance on license compliance, and seek insights on product adoption and usage
