Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of one year prior experience working with and handling livestock in loading and unloading operations
  • Experience with skid loaders and forklift operation
  • Basic experience with livestock handling in a procurement area of the meat industry preferred
  • Prior knowledge and experience with humane animal handling procedures, process, and general policy in procurement preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge preferred
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal; ability to communicate with all levels of team members and government officials
  • Must be able to work in a very fast paced environment
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds or more unassisted
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (8 to 10 hours excluding break time)

Responsibilities

  • Driving, sorting, weighing, tattooing, marking, and penning of livestock (hogs)
  • Keeping accurate inventories and head counts
  • Performing light building maintenance and showcase duties when not working with livestock
  • Moving hogs safely and effectively with minimum stress to the hog
  • Following all humane handling guidelines as per policy
  • Performing any other duties deemed appropriate by the supervisor
  • Ensuring personal safety and food safety
