Requirements

  • Applies considerable knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks including direct patient care in multiple apheresis modalities (e.g., therapeutic plasma exchange, RBC exchange or depletion, PLT and WBC depletions, PBSC and WBC collections, Photopheresis, LDL apheresis, therapeutic phlebotomy)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) certification or licensure implied
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Current knowledge of advancements in Therapeutic Apheresis, including completion of apheresis LMS modules
  • Ability to travel outside regional area for coverage
  • Completion of appropriate training programs for specific patient care
  • Ability to assess patients using principles of growth and development

Responsibilities

  • Spends 80% or more of time providing Apheresis treatments and direct patient care in accordance with company policies, procedures, FMCNA compliance programs, and contracted hospitals’ policies
  • Provides direct patient care for assigned patients in hospital or outpatient locations, delivering appropriate treatment techniques as prescribed
  • Performs scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency Apheresis treatments and other extra-corporeal therapies (therapeutic and donor), establishing priority of care
  • Initiates, monitors, and discontinues prescribed treatments and medications according to established policies and procedures
  • Gives organized, concise shift reports for assigned patients
  • Applies high-level thinking to patient schedules to prioritize critical needs based on labs, MD orders, access/replacement products, or patient assessment
  • Ensures adequate coverage of patient treatments and customer needs through appropriate scheduling
  • Travels outside regional area as necessary to cover patient treatments
  • Maintains a safe environment by following universal infection control precautions
  • Assesses patients’ responses to therapeutic apheresis pre, during, and post-treatment, making adjustments to the treatment plan as indicated by credentialed physician
  • Communicates problems or concerns to Inpatient Program Manager, credentialed physician, hospital primary nurse, and others as needed
  • Detects mild, moderate, and severe complications related to Apheresis or non-Apheresis issues, notifying appropriate hospital personnel
  • Implements, administers, monitors, and documents patient’s response to prescribed treatments, including notification of adverse reactions
  • Delivers safe, effective care in a timely and efficient manner
  • Reports new or unusual incidents, complaints, or problems to Apheresis Managers and/or hospital personnel, tracking and documenting adverse events per Variance Reporting guidelines
  • Accurately documents all pertinent treatment information in patient’s record (ACES) and hospital record as needed
