Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Aerospace engineering, Aeronautical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Production/Manufacturing engineering, Mathematics or Physics discipline (minimum 2:2)
  • Aerodynamics and propulsion based modules studied (such as Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Aircraft Performance, Flight Dynamics & Control etc.)
  • British Citizen or Dual UK national with British citizenship
  • Able to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS)
  • Available to start the 2-year programme in September 2026
  • Willing to work 5 days per week on-site in Bristol (dynamic hybrid with limited remote working)

Responsibilities

  • Undertake four 6-month placements exposing to various aspects of the aerodynamics department
  • Work on design of missiles across different development stages (concept, assessment, development, in-service)
  • Apply and develop bespoke tools alongside commercial software to evaluate airframe performance
  • Engage with stealth, propulsion, thermal and structural aspects in a multi-disciplinary missile design approach
  • Support missile integration onto land, naval and air platforms
  • Integrate solid rocket motors and air-breathing engines into missile airframes and assess their aerodynamic impact and overall performance
  • Participate in personal and professional development courses for graduates and company-led internal technical courses
  • Potentially undertake one external 6-month placement (e.g., at Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, DSTL, ARA, S&C Thermofluids, Roxel Motors)
  • Receive mentorship from aerodynamicists and learn cutting-edge aerodynamic techniques for designing future missiles
