Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in refining or petrochemicals
  • Hands-on experience with AspenTech DMC required; other APC platforms a plus
  • Familiarity with refinery DCS systems (Honeywell Experion/TDC3000, Foxboro, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of process control fundamentals, refinery economics, and optimization
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to work in fast-paced refinery environments
  • Travel up to 25% required including site visits
  • Demonstrates leadership through influence, aligning stakeholders across multiple levels
  • Proactively seeks improvement, high standards for safety, integrity, and operational excellence
  • Values teamwork and collaboration, maintaining productive relationships with peers, site personnel, and leadership

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implementation, and commissioning APC controllers across major refinery process units (CDU/VDU, FCC, cokers, hydrocrackers, reformers, etc.)
  • Support and maintain existing process control applications with site personnel support
  • Perform step testing, model identification, and tuning to ensure robust, high-value applications
  • Provide technical guidance and training to refinery teams during controller start-up, stabilization, and troubleshooting
  • Partner with site engineers and corporate technology experts to expand advanced applications such as energy optimization, inferential quality control, and multi-unit coordination
  • Integrate APC applications with real-time optimization (RTO), planning, and scheduling systems to capture full economic value
  • Facilitate a best-practice network of controls engineers, driving standardization, knowledge sharing, and cross-site collaboration
  • Quantify and communicate profitability and performance impacts, ensuring sustained benefit and operator acceptance
  • Deliver clear presentations and updates to refinery and corporate leadership, demonstrating APC value and opportunities
