Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in multiple modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT), apheresis, and ultrafiltration
  • Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
  • Assess patients’ responses to treatment, make appropriate adjustments to the treatment plan, and communicate problems or concerns to the Inpatient Program Manager, physicians, hospital primary nurse, and others as indicated
  • Deliver safe, effective care in a timely and efficient manner
  • Give organized, concise shift reports and apply high-level thinking to shift patient schedules based on labs, MD orders, or patient assessments
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, notifying physicians and blood suppliers of adverse reactions
  • Collaborate and communicate with physicians and healthcare team members to interpret, adjust, and coordinate daily patient care plans
  • Initiate and communicate with FMS facility nursing staff and hospital personnel as needed
  • Accurately document all treatment information in the individual patient record (ACES) and hospital record
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Perform all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document appropriately
  • Conduct pre-treatment dialysis machine alarm testing and, if applicable, initiate Solution Delivery System
  • Operate related equipment safely, troubleshoot minor issues, and utilize supplies efficiently
  • Conduct and document dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, functional testing, and internal/external disinfection
  • Complete and document participation in QAI activities
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned
  • Act as a subject matter expert to hospital staff for dialysis-related patient/equipment complications
  • Report all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the inpatient manager
