Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Knowledge and skills in diverse dialysis modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT), apheresis, and ultrafiltration
Ability to supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff
Ability to provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
High-level thinking skills for shift patient scheduling based on labs, MD orders, or patient assessments
Participation in ongoing QAI activities, staff meetings, training, and orientation

Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care in multiple modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis
Supervises and directs Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; provides direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
Assesses patients’ responses to treatment, makes appropriate adjustments/modifications to the treatment plan, and communicates problems/concerns to the Inpatient Program Manager, physician, hospital primary nurse, and others
Delivers safe, effective care in a timely and efficient manner
Gives organized, concise shift reports and applies high-level thinking to shift patient schedules for critical patients
Implements, administers, monitors, and documents patient’s response to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, notifying physician and blood supplier of adverse reactions
Collaborates and communicates with physicians and healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and coordinate daily patient care plans
Initiates and communicates to FMS facility nursing staff and hospital personnel as needed
Accurately documents all treatment information in the individual patient record (ACES) and hospital record
Cleans and disinfects dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
Conducts all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and documents appropriately
Performs all required pre-treatment dialysis machine alarm testing and initiates Solution Delivery System if applicable
Operates all related equipment appropriately and safely, provides minor troubleshooting, and utilizes supplies efficiently
Understands, conducts, and documents dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, alarm tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, functional testing, and internal/external disinfection on water and dialysis machines
Completes and documents ongoing participation in QAI activities
Participates in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned
Acts as a subject matter expert to hospital staff for dialysis-related patient/equipment complications
Reports all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the inpatient manager and others
