Requirements

Candidates must possess a Restricted Certification in Education (RCED) for grades K–6 and/or 7–12 via the Missouri Interpreters Certification System (MICS). A strong command of ASL and spoken English is essential, along with experience interpreting in K–12 environments, including classrooms, assemblies, and IEPs. Proficiency with platforms like Zoom and Teams, solid tech troubleshooting skills, and a deep understanding of DHH education, assistive technologies, and ADA/IDEA compliance are required. A collaborative spirit, top-notch communication skills, and a clean background check are also necessary.

Responsibilities

The ASL Interpreter will provide live, synchronous interpretation between spoken English and ASL for virtual instruction, IEP meetings, and school events. Responsibilities include collaborating with educators to enhance the remote classroom experience for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students, ensuring seamless tech setup and connections, and providing discreet, real-time access to instruction by shadowing students virtually. The interpreter will also offer insights at IEP meetings and team huddles to support student communication needs, maintain clear records of assignments and sessions, and champion language access in all interactions.
