Requirements

  • Must hold a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) and be eligible to practice veterinary medicine in the United States
  • Standard computer skills; may require use of the Tyson Business Computer System
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires licensure or willingness to obtain licensure in Arkansas and Oklahoma
  • Requires USDA accreditation for Arkansas and Oklahoma
  • Must be available for 10 or more domestic trips annually, with daily local travel as needed
  • Must use safe lifting techniques and be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • When visiting facilities, must follow required safety procedures, wear personal protective equipment, adhere to biosecurity protocols (including showering before entering facilities), and follow the Company Animal Welfare Policy

Responsibilities

  • Direct interaction with company producers and verification of swine herd health, ensuring adherence to standard operating guidelines and production practices
  • Handle health-related farm issues and communicate these issues to the appropriate department head
  • Work with farm personnel to assess health issues and coordinate with the Technical Services department to develop strategies that address those issues
  • Collaboratively develop improved processes around production management, health management, genetic improvement, and biosecurity
  • Conduct farm assessments and evaluations
  • Assist in training company personnel on proper animal husbandry practices
