Candidates should have experience writing and implementing standards-aligned lessons, curating reliable resources, and creating curriculum for digital education contexts using standard frameworks. A deep understanding of backwards-design, objective-based planning, and formative assessment is required, along with a commitment to developing engaging, student-centered, and culturally responsive resources. Familiarity with unpacking standards, rich content knowledge in Social Studies, ELA, or Science, and the ability to respond to feedback, meet deadlines, and use various software platforms are also necessary.
Unit Contributors will create engaging, student-centered, and culturally responsive lesson plans by curating Newsela texts and aligning them to provided scopes, sequences, and standards. They will also review and edit draft units, provide feedback, refresh content collections with updated resources, and perform other production support tasks such as migrating information, adjusting formatting, updating links, and tagging standards.

Newsela offers tailored educational content for K-12 students, providing engaging instructional materials in subjects like English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Schools and districts subscribe to access a library of articles that are updated daily and available at five different reading levels, ensuring accessibility for all students. The platform integrates with Learning Management Systems and includes features like activities and reporting tools to support teachers. Newsela's goal is to enhance student engagement and improve teaching methods through flexible, standards-aligned resources.
