Requirements

  • Ability to receive verbal or written daily work assignments and instructions from supervisors/peers and/or dispatch center
  • Capability to load required tools and material into Company vehicle and travel to work location
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on Company provided tools, equipment, and motor vehicles
  • Review and analyze complex schematic drawings to determine work to be done, methods, and sequence of tasks; communicate discrepancies and recommend job design changes
  • Work with small hand tools, mechanical equipment, color-coded and test signal identified wires for connection and repair of wires and cables to telecommunications equipment
  • Splice pairs of color-coded or tone identified conductors by hand, splicing tool, or machine; rearrange and reconnect cable facilities; work on digital data circuits or fiber conductors using sensitive equipment
  • Identify, isolate, and repair various types of cable faults
  • Work with outside contractors during excavation of cable facilities for service restoration and/or installation, including locating/marking buried and underground cable facilities
  • Isolate and locate air pressure leaks in underground cable facilities
  • Use various electronic test equipment
  • Develop working knowledge of binary numbering system, digital concepts, and fiber optics (light guide)
  • Dig with shovel, jackhammer, etc., to find buried trouble
  • Climb non-stepped poles using climbers
  • Use mechanized systems requiring basic computer literacy
  • Communicate with other work groups, customers, and vendors on completed work and requests information
  • Accurately perform time reporting tasks, classify work operations to account codes, and explain work changes to customers
  • Meet specific quality, production, and safety standards
  • Install, rearrange, repair, and remove communication facilities, including inside wiring
  • Engage in customer contact and act as Company's representative and customer's advocate
  • Work with TAN mechanized systems requiring minimal computer literacy
  • Work in both construction and maintenance environments
