Responsibilities

  • Supervise the 24/7 Dispatch System Operations Center (SOC) staff
  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and supervise switching and tagging; write, check, and issue clearances
  • Monitor loads, emergency restoration, and associated reporting for the electric distribution system
  • Supervise dispatch of Eversource personnel to outage, trouble, and emergency calls
  • Coordinate activities within the SOC and with Electric Service and Electric Field Operations departments
  • Serve as switching director as assigned
  • Monitor, operate, and maintain electronic dispatch system including SCADA equipment
  • Plan, write, check, approve, direct, issue clearances/permissions, and monitor orders for switching, grounding, and tagging instructions
  • Receive OMS outage and non-outage events and trouble calls, analyze problems, and initiate corrective action including personnel dispatch
  • Direct corrective action and inform appropriate personnel (customer service, T&D staff, engineering, management) of problems and restoration progress
  • Monitor load and voltages on circuits and substation equipment during switching and peak periods
  • Support the emergency disaster plan and assist at other regional operation centers during storm restoration
  • Monitor SCADA, substation, and system alarms
  • Supervise SOC switching requirements between system dispatchers and field personnel for assigned shift
  • Prepare, disseminate, and maintain regional operations center records and reports (e.g., circuit loads, interruption reports, emergency contacts)
  • Coordinate with Eastern MA Black Start and emergency load shedding per Operating Procedures/Guides
  • Support Manager/Senior Supervisor in discussing shift workload, system configurations, risks, and notifications
  • Train new dispatchers, including On-the-Job Training (OJT) for OMS, switching, and tagging procedures
  • Operate PC-based and mainframe applications
  • Coordinate dispatching with Eversource personnel and outside entities (other utilities, government agencies, police, fire, etc.)
  • Plan and schedule shift coverage to ensure safe, reliable Distribution System operation while controlling costs
  • Review distribution system events and ensure proper reporting
  • Communicate new/updated policies and procedures and ensure compliance
  • Supervise safe and efficient restoration of Distribution System outages
